Overview

The robot vacuum market in 2025 has reached a level of sophistication that was unthinkable only a few years ago. Today's models steer around dog toys, lift themselves over door thresholds, wash their own mop pads with hot water and dry them with warm air, all with no human intervention. And yet, in a field crowded with excellent products, the Roborock Saros 10R still manages to stand out.

Crowned number one robot vacuum by Vacuum Wars, awarded best obstacle detection system of the first half of 2025, and judged by RTINGS to be "the best robot vacuum we've ever tested", the Saros 10R has won near-unanimous praise from independent test labs around the world. Digital Trends gave it 9 out of 10. TechRadar and Tom's Guide rated it 4.5 out of 5. Gizmodo awarded it its "Recommends 2025" badge.

What makes it special is not a single groundbreaking feature, but the combination of an incredibly slim profile of just 7.98 cm, a navigation system that scored a perfect 24 out of 24 in obstacle avoidance tests, a brush system that genuinely solves the hair tangle problem, and cleaning performance that rivals models twice as tall. It is, quite simply, the most complete package on the market today.

Design and build quality: incredibly slim, superbly engineered

The first thing that strikes you about the Saros 10R is how slim it is. At just 7.98 cm tall, it is one of the lowest robot vacuums on the market, and Roborock achieved this without resorting to the retractable LiDAR turret found on the cheaper Saros 10. The 10R uses the StarSight Autonomous System 2.0 instead, completely flush with the top surface, which combines a front-facing 3D Time-of-Flight sensor with an RGB camera: no protruding tower.

This detail matters more than you might think. A slim profile is not just an aesthetic choice: it determines whether your robot can actually clean under the sofa, the bed frame or low furniture. Most premium robot vacuums stand between 9.5 and 10.5 cm tall. Those 2-3 centimetres the Saros 10R manages to shave off open up access to spaces that other robots simply cannot reach.

Build quality is excellent. The matte black finish resists fingerprints well and the overall construction feels solid without being heavy: the robot weighs just 4.1 kg. BGR called it "a robot vacuum to keep for years", and the build quality fully backs that up.

The Multifunctional Dock 4.0

The charging station is the Saros 10R's headquarters, and it behaves like a true command centre. About 45 cm tall and 37 cm wide, it handles all of this on its own:

  • Self-emptying of the 270 ml dustbin into a disposable bag
  • Mop washing with hot water at 80°C
  • Mop drying with 55°C hot air to prevent mould and bad smells
  • Automatic detergent dispensing
  • 4-litre clean water tank and 3-litre dirty water tank

The station is not small, and you will need to plan where to put it. But it eliminates weeks of manual maintenance. Several long-term reviewers reported topping up the water once every two or three weeks in medium-sized flats.

This is where the Saros 10R clearly sets itself apart from the competition, and the numbers tell a remarkable story.

In Vacuum Wars' standardised obstacle avoidance tests, the Saros 10R achieved a perfect score of 24 out of 24: the first and, at the time of writing this review, the only robot vacuum to reach that result. It won the Best Obstacle Avoidance of the first half of 2025 award, beating every other flagship tested that year.

The StarSight Autonomous System 2.0 replaces the traditional top-mounted LiDAR turret with a combination of front-facing 3D Time-of-Flight sensors and an RGB camera, supplemented by VertiBeam side structured-light sensors at the rear. Together, these systems generate over 21,600 data points at 38,400 Hz, building a detailed three-dimensional map of your floor in real time.

In practical terms, this means the Saros 10R can identify and steer around:

  • Shoes and slippers of every size
  • Socks and small items of clothing
  • Charging cables and thin wires
  • Toys and pet bowls
  • Small objects scattered on the floor
  • Pet mess (essential if you have dogs or cats)

RobotObzor ran particularly thorough tests in different lighting conditions. In well-lit rooms, the 10R detected 6 out of 6 obstacles in the standard category, 3 out of 3 socks, 4 out of 4 cables and 6 out of 6 simulated pet messes. In complete darkness, performance dropped, falling to 5 out of 6 for standard obstacles and 3 out of 6 for pet mess. Worth bearing in mind if the robot mostly cleans at night in dark rooms.

NotebookCheck confirmed that the system detected every obstacle placed during testing, apart from a single shoelace lying flat on the floor, an impressively low error rate. It even successfully steered around a small 3 x 1 cm brick that would have troubled most rival models.

One important nuance: BGR reported initial problems with cables that resolved after three cleaning cycles, as the robot's AI learned the layout of the home. The Saros 10R genuinely improves over time, building an ever more accurate understanding of your specific environment with each pass.

The AdaptiLift system

The AdaptiLift chassis lets the Saros 10R raise itself by up to 40 mm (about 4 cm) to clear door thresholds and transitions between different types of flooring. On paper it sounds impressive, but real-world tests paint a more nuanced picture.

RobotObzor found the system reliable at 2 cm, manageable at 3 cm, but inconsistent at the claimed 4 cm. For most homes this is more than enough, since standard thresholds rarely exceed 2 cm, but if you have particularly high transitions, temper your expectations a little.

Suction performance: powerful where it really counts

The Saros 10R delivers 22,000 Pa of suction, a figure that places it firmly at the top end of today's robot vacuums. But suction figures only tell part of the story. What really matters is how effectively that power translates into actually picking up debris on different surfaces.

Hard floors

On hard surfaces (parquet, tiles, laminate) the Saros 10R is exceptional. Vacuum Wars measured a 98% debris pickup rate on hard floors, ahead of the Dreame X50 Ultra at 96%. TechReviewer.de reported that the robot picks up "even the finest dust particles", and their tests showed it collecting nearly 95% of scattered crumbs.

The FlexiArm side brush deserves a special mention. Unlike a standard fixed side brush, the FlexiArm physically extends outwards when the robot detects a wall or corner, sweeping debris from areas most robots simply cannot reach.

Carpet performance

Carpet cleaning is strong but not the best in its class. Vacuum Wars recorded 90% sand removal on thick carpets, against 95% for the Dreame X50 Ultra. For deeply embedded debris, the Saros 10R achieved an 80% pickup rate, above the category average of 75%.

Where the 10R really shines on carpets is in handling pet hair. TechGearLab and Vacuum Wars measured a 92% pickup rate for 6 cm flattened pet hair, well above the 80% average. The robot handles both short and long hair without the disastrous tangles that plague many rivals.

The DuoDivide system: a revolution for pet owners

The DuoDivide anti-tangle main brush is arguably the single most important feature of the Saros 10R for anyone who shares their home with pets. It consists of two separate rubber brush rollers that rotate in opposite directions, actively stopping hair from wrapping around the brush axle.

Tom's Guide tested the Saros 10R for four months in a home with one dog and two cats and called it "the ultimate robot vacuum for pet hair", noting that its hair pickup performance was "surprisingly good". TechReviewer.de confirmed that the DuoDivide brush "stayed completely free of hair" after numerous cleaning cycles. RobotObzor pushed the test further, using 18 cm strands of hair and reporting 100% tangle resistance.

This is not a marginal convenience. Hair tangles are the number one maintenance problem with robot vacuums, and the DuoDivide system eliminates it at the root. If you have ever spent 15 minutes cutting tangled hair off your robot's brush with scissors, you understand perfectly why this matters so much.

Mopping performance: good, not exceptional

The Saros 10R also works as a mop, using dual spinning pads that rotate to scrub the floor. The VibraRise system automatically lifts the pads by 22 mm when the robot detects a carpet, so your rugs don't get wet.

For everyday maintenance cleaning (dust, small stains, footprints) the Saros 10R does well. RobotObzor gave it high marks, reporting that it achieved "the best result in the Roborock range" for scrubbing ability, with floors completely clean after the sixth pass without any need for detergent.

However, for dried-on stains and stubborn dirt, the spinning pads can't match the roller systems used by rivals such as the Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni or the Dreame X50 Ultra. NotebookCheck found that ketchup stains needed two full cleaning cycles and still left traces. In the head-to-head mopping comparison, Vacuum Wars noted that the Dreame X50 Ultra left no residue at all, whereas the Saros 10R left a slightly sticky film.

The mopping is genuinely useful for keeping already clean floors in good condition between thorough manual cleans. It doesn't replace a proper mop when it comes to serious dirt, but few robot mops really do.

Noise level: quiet in everyday use

One of the Saros 10R's underrated strengths is how quiet it is in normal operation.

ModeNoise level
Quiet56-58 dB
Standard~56 dB
Max power60-67 dB
Dock self-emptying70-72 dB

TechRadar listed the "extremely quiet operation" as one of its explicit strengths. TechGearLab observed that it produces a "white-noise-like hum" that "wouldn't wake a baby". At standard power, 56 dB is roughly the level of a normal conversation: you can comfortably watch television or talk on the phone in the same room.

Battery life: enough for most homes

The Saros 10R has a 6,400 mAh battery that delivers real-world runtime ranging from about 70 minutes at maximum power to about 180 minutes in quiet mode on hard floors.

Surface + ModeRuntimeCoverage
Hard floor, Standard~175 min~195 sq m
Hard floor, Max~85 min~95 sq m
Carpet, Standard~150 min~170 sq m
Carpet, Max~70 min~80 sq m

NotebookCheck measured 85 sq m on a single charge in its endurance test, with the robot returning to the dock with 14% battery left. For reference, an average Italian flat is around 90-100 sq m, which means the Saros 10R can clean most homes in a single session at standard power.

The robot automatically returns to the dock to recharge and resumes cleaning where it left off, a feature that works reliably with no input from the user.

The app: best in class

The Roborock app is consistently praised by all reviewers as one of the best companion apps in the robot vacuum category. NotebookCheck called it "one of the best on the market" with "endless customisation options".

The app's main features include:

  • Interactive floor maps with room editing, furniture placement and custom cleaning zones
  • Room-by-room settings for suction power, mopping intensity and cleaning frequency
  • No-go zones and virtual walls to keep the robot away from sensitive areas
  • Live view from the robot's front RGB camera
  • Scheduling with granular setup for each room
  • Cleaning history with detailed maps showing exactly where the robot has cleaned
  • Obstacle detection log with photos of the identified objects
  • Remote control mode to drive the robot manually from the app

Smart home integration is comprehensive. The Saros 10R supports the Matter protocol, which means it works natively with Apple Home (Siri), Google Home and Amazon Alexa. There is also a built-in voice assistant called "Hello Rocky", although reviewers generally found it less reliable than the integrations with external home assistants.

How it compares with the competition

Saros 10R vs. Dreame X50 Ultra ($1,699)

The Dreame X50 Ultra is the Saros 10R's most direct rival, and the two trade blows depending on your priorities.

CategorySaros 10RDreame X50 UltraWinner

Threshold climbing~30 mm real-world60 mmDreame
Height7.98 cm~9.9 cmSaros 10R
Price$1,599$1,699Saros 10R

In short: the Saros 10R wins on obstacle avoidance, hard floor cleaning, slim profile and price. The Dreame X50 Ultra wins on deep carpet cleaning, mopping and threshold climbing. For most homes with mixed flooring, the Saros 10R offers the best overall package.

Saros 10R vs. Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni ($1,300)

The Ecovacs costs $300 less and has a genuinely superior roller mopping system. If your home is mostly hard flooring and mopping is your top priority, the X8 Pro Omni deserves serious consideration. However, the Saros 10R offers stronger suction (22,000 Pa against 18,000 Pa), better navigation and superior carpet performance.

Saros 10R vs. Roborock Saros Z70 ($2,599)

The Z70 is the "big brother" model, adding a robotic arm that can pick up socks, shoes and small objects from the floor. On paper it sounds revolutionary, but reviews were lukewarm: Gizmodo gave it 2.5 out of 5, noting that the arm placed objects correctly only once in over 40 attempts in their tests. The arm also required design compromises: a smaller dustbin and a single, less effective brush roller in place of the DuoDivide system. Several reviewers, including RTINGS and Vacuum Wars, explicitly recommend the 10R over the Z70.

What owners say after six months

Long-term reviews paint an encouraging picture. The site 6 Months Later revisited the Saros 10R in December 2025 and found that:

  • Navigation stayed excellent even with frequently moved furniture and clutter
  • The robot learned the layout of the home over time and stopped bumping into objects it initially struggled with
  • The spinning pads proved significantly better than the vibrating pads of older Roborock models
  • Day-to-day maintenance was minimal: topping up the water, emptying the dirty tank and occasionally removing a stuck object

Roborock has also released several firmware updates since launch, fixing the navigation quirks reported in the first months. Users who had run into early mapping problems reported that later updates resolved them.

Amazon reviews currently stand at 4.1 out of 5 with about 75% five-star ratings. The most common praise concerns suction power and mopping quality. The few negative reviews cite post-purchase reliability problems and customer service experiences, rather than fundamental product flaws.

What could be better

No product is perfect, and honesty requires acknowledging the Saros 10R's real weaknesses:

  1. Price. Even at current sale prices of around $1,100, it is a significant investment. Budget-conscious buyers can get 80% of this experience while spending considerably less.
  2. Mopping is good, not the best in its class. The roller systems from Dreame and Ecovacs beat spinning pads on dried-on stains.
  3. Threshold climbing doesn't match the claimed 4 cm. Reliable performance stops at around 2-3 cm in independent tests.
  4. Obstacle avoidance gets worse in the dark. The camera-based StarSight system loses effectiveness in completely dark rooms.
  5. The dock is big. At 45 cm tall and 37 cm wide, it needs dedicated space.
  6. Cable detection is occasionally inconsistent. Several reviewers noted that the robot avoided cables in one room but got tangled in similar cables in another.
  7. Cleaning carpet edges is limited. The side brush automatically retracts on carpet, which means strips of carpet next to walls get less attention.

The verdict

The Roborock Saros 10R is not simply the best robot vacuum Roborock has ever made. By the consensus of the world's most respected independent test labs, it is the best robot vacuum currently available, full stop.

Its combination of an ultra-slim profile that reaches spaces closed to others, a navigation system that scored a historically unprecedented perfect score in obstacle avoidance, a brush system that genuinely eliminates the hair tangle problem, and cleaning performance that competes with much bigger robots, makes it the most complete package on the market.

Is it perfect? No. The mopping could be more effective on dried-on stains, threshold climbing doesn't quite live up to the marketing promises, and the price, even discounted, is not negligible. But these are the kind of trade-offs that separate a 9 out of 10 from a hypothetical perfect score, not the kind that should steer you towards a different product.

If you want a single robot vacuum that does everything well and most things excellently, the Saros 10R is the one to buy.
