The FRITZ!Repeater 1200 AX is the entry point to the world of FRITZ!Mesh: just 80 x 80 x 37 mm, Wi-Fi 6 with 160 MHz channels up to 3,000 Mbit/s, and a price from around 55 euros. Can a repeater this small make a difference?

Design: the most compact in the range
At just 80 x 80 x 37 mm, it is barely bigger than a phone charger. It doesn't block adjacent sockets. White finish, discreet front LED (which can be switched off). Impeccable build quality despite the size.
Performance: the limits of dual-band
Dual-band with no dedicated backhaul: real-world speed is about half the theoretical throughput. The 160 MHz channels make up for it in part:
- Same room: around 400-500 Mbit/s (Wi-Fi) / 900 Mbit/s (LAN)
- One room away: around 200-350 Mbit/s
- Two rooms away: around 100-200 Mbit/s
For 4K streaming (25 Mbit/s), HD video calls and browsing, more than enough. Competitive gamers or anyone moving large files are better off with the 3000 AX or the 6000.
The Gigabit LAN port
Handy for connecting smart TVs, consoles or PCs in rooms far from the router. It can also be connected to a switch for more wired devices.
5-year warranty
AVM offers a 5-year warranty on all its repeaters. For a device that runs 24/7, that is an important reassurance about build quality.
Final verdict
| Design | 5/5 |
|---|---|
| Performance | 4/5 |

| Value for money | 5/5 |
| OVERALL SCORE | 4.5/5 |
Our verdict: The best buy in the AVM range, hands down. For flats and medium-sized homes, it offers everything you need at an unbeatable price.
Conclusion
Small, cheap, reliable and backed by a 5-year warranty. For getting rid of the dead spot in the bedroom or kitchen without spending too much, it's the ideal solution.
